RE: Ne. to Las Vegas suggestions

We just made the trip you are planning. We did Dakota Ridge RV in Denver (VERY VERY nice park). Bryce Canyon KOA at Tropic Utah (also check out Ruby Inn @ Bryce Canyon enterance). Grand Canyon Railway and RV park in Williams Arizona (take the train to the Grand Canyon). Then into Las Vegas. You didn't give a timeline for your travels. If you have time to stop and tour this is a great route. Hap & Patti

RE: Hey Hap Hazard - Fossett's wreck site?

Just got back from three weeks vacation and this is the first thing I hear in the news. The ID was taken into Mammoth Lakes Police Dept and confirmed. The issue was then to locate the wreckage (no one knew where he'd been flying before the ID was located). Once the wreckage was discovered then it was time for boots on the ground to investigate. It sounds as if they have confirmed the DOA status. This is the area of Red's Meadow and that has caused several jurisdictions to work together. Mammoth Lakes Polce took the first information, The Mono County Sheriff's and Madera County Sheriff worked the search and recovery. FAA and NTSB will handle the crash investigation, and the Coroner will perform the autopsy on behalf of the FAA/NTSB. The engine and airframe manufactures will also be represented during the investigation. While it's fun the guess what happened and share theories it's not very responsible. I'll wait for the final report to come out before commenting. I will say that when things go wrong with a single engine plane over rough terrain, the options are very limited and the outcomes are not always great. Hope your family finds peace Steve. Hap

RE: Weekend Warrior Purchase

I must correct - it was stated the selling price was 60% of list, 40% off. Sorry. I will also say that I was not shopping and can't say I was being told the truth, I just passed along what I was told. Use it as you may. Hap

RE: Weekend Warrior Purchase

I just spoke with a dealer yesterday who had several WW on his lot. He said that people are buying WW and his stock is falling. They're currently selling at 60% off list and falling about 10% at each adjustment. The banks aren't financing so you need to bring your own cash or have some type of financing available. He said the current buyers don't seem to worry about the warranties. They're getting a great TH at a great price and could care less about the company. Most of the hardware is available from the suppliers and sub-contractors that provided pieces for WW, Domestic, O'Nan, etc.

RE: WW stereo wiring diagram

I'll expand your question. I would like to add outside speakers to my WW FSC2800 ('06). There are wires to the outside of the TH at the exterior location for the speakers and they are marked speakers. However, when connected to speakers there is no sound on the rear connection. Does anyone have the wiring diagram so I can trouble shoot the system. I agree it is a birds nest behind the stereo and there is no logic to the color code system of the wires. Thanks Hap

RE: Non-commercial Class A

Forget the gross overweight issue, it's the limits on the trailer placard for gross weight of the trailer that tigger the need for the license (even if the trailer is empty and weighs 8000# below gross). The question of over gross weight will follow the P.C. for the stop (with possible citation), the discovery of your out of class operation ( with citation & possible parking/towing),and then your trip on the scales. Your day has already gone downhill before the gross weight issue comes up. How many people scream about illegals driving without a license and no insurance? You're doing the same thing!!!! If you're out of class, you're unlicensed and your insurance company can walk. Just get the license or a lighter trailer. Hap

RE: Non-commercial Class A

OK folks, let's put it straight. Do you drive your car unlicensed? Would you take that chance? CHP, the Sheriff's, and city Police know this is an issue and can stop you for any other moving violation. Once stopped, the door is then open for license issues. Parking your rig along the roadway, towing (at your expense for a big rig tow), and citation are all possible. The license is not difficult to get but you do need to study as no one will simply hand it to you. You're towing 1000's of Lbs of weight and subject to all the events that can happen on the road (blow-outs, others cutting you off, and winds just to name a few). Your insurance company can walk away from you for driving out of class. Where does that leave you? I posted the whole process awhile back (Jan/Feb of this year). This included tips for parelle parking, the pre-trip inspection test, and driving test. One tip was to find out what days your DMV office offers the driving test. Go down and park (back a ways) to observe the exmainer doing the pre-inspection test. You won't hear the questions but will see the process. Then simply follow the other guy during his driving protion of the test. Once you know the course you'll be able to search and note speed zones, locations of lane changes, starts and stops, and all the other parts of the test. You'll be able to test with confidence. As they say "Just do it". Good luck, Hap

RE: WW gas cap

I lost my gas cap on my FSC2800. After replacing it with what appeared to be the correct cap, I keep hearing what sounded like someone rear ending my trailer. It was the tank expanding and venting in the heating sun. You do need a properly vented cap. (I wish I had a part number for you, I'll be watching for a coerrect number myself.) Hap

RE: WW Alternatives

I have an 06 WW FSC2800 and never had a problem. I suspect that you could find a great used unit and get one heck of a deal right now. I'll sell you mine for 15% above what I paid. If you say no deal - I'll just keep it and leave on my 4,000 mile vacation I have planned for mid Sept. Hap

RE: Roadglide bottoming out

Quick and easy fix. Place a 2X6x12" to 24" long piece of wood on the ramp door so the end is at the hinge line for the garage floor. Simply drive over the wood. It will raise the rear tire to clear the angle. If you still need additional clearance, add a 2X6X12" to the end of the prior piece nearest the door hinge. To come out, simply lay the board down but make sure someone holds the end that's down the ramp, so it don't slide. Hap

Mt. Rushmore campground ?

Hi All, Need some quick help on selecting a KOA campround in the Mt. Rushmore area. The wife and I are travelling alone for this trip, no kids or dogs (Adult travel). We will be arriving about Sept. 12th, so we know the pools will most likely be closed. We are looking for the nices RV sites, full hook-ups, cable TV, internet service, and convienence to local attractions, Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park, the Caves, etc. We have narrowed down our search to Rapid City KOA or Hill City KOA. We need a recommendation and comparision for each. If you can help provide the pro's & con's we would appricate it. Thanks in advance, Hap & Patti

RE: WW Mod Your Couch?

BensBox I'd love to attach photos, however, I've not had much luck doing so. Can you explain exactly how to do it? Hap

RE: WW Mod Your Couch?

After reading this post I went out and did my mod (about 30-45 minutes to complete and less than $10.00). It has been a concern of mine for sometime but I didn't take action because I thought I was just worrying to much. After all, no one else had appeared to have had a problem. This post changed my mine. I didn't worry about locating a stud. I used the bottom flat plate on the upper bunk frame, just above the corner of the window. I know it is securely attached to the trailer frame. I simply drilled a hole in the flat plate that gussets the two vertical rails. I countersank the head of a beveled screw to fit flush with the plate so there would be no stress placed on the nylon block of the bunk when in the down position. I then bolted a hook under this plate. I then used 1/4" plastic covered cable to run down the front of the sofa to the second (lower) leg. There I crimped a wire terminal to the cable. The terminal was bolted to the center hole in the metal frame of the leg mounting plate. I had to counter sink the screw head where it was between the leg mounting plate and the wood seat. The upper end of the cable was looped and crimped at the top. This system stays attached at the lower leg and simply hangs under the sofa when the sofa is in the down and set up position. When you fold up the sofa for travel, you simply hook the looped end of the cable on to the hook. This cable will never support a lot of weight as it is there as a back-up, but it is tight enough to provide some support. Hap

RE: Dometic awning parts

Thanks for the reply. I went from a $229.00 replacement arm to a $12.50 hinge. The link from Kanyonkitty and coptalker got me what I needed. This forum is worth it weight in gold. Hap

Dometic awning parts

Does anyone know the name of the pot metal part that slides inside the support track of a Dometic awning? Mine broke and I don't even know what this piece is called to ask for it or search for it. It slides up the inside of the arm and locks at the top near the fabric. It is part of the horizontal arm when extended. If anyone has a contact for this part on the west coast that would also help. Thanks, Hap
